Quick step

Metronet is responsible for two thirds of the London Underground, UK, and has renewed 41% less than was promised in its bid on the Bakerloo, Central and Victoria lines and 65% less than promised on the subsurface lines. The company is 30 months into a 7.5 year contract for upgrading and maintaining new trains, track, signalling and stations. In October 2004 it signed a contract for engineering trains that will triple the rate of overground track renewal. The fleet of nine Class 66 diesel locomotives and up to 185 wagons will enter service in July 2006 allowing track replacement at 50 locations on a weekend possession. Trains can be up to 400m long, reducing time spent mobilising equipment. Metronet will continue to share Tube Lines' fleet for tunnel work.
