Winter maintenance management system
The aim of this project is to create a Winter Model (Winter Maintenance Management System = WMMS). VTI is working on this project together with climatologists from Goeteborg University. The winter model with many sub-models will be a working prototype by 2005. From 2006 the development will focuse on sensitivity analysis, calibration and verification. The model incorporates effects of various road conditions on road-users, road maintenance administrators, and society in general. Winter road maintenance is carried out to increase accessibility and safety in driving on winter roads. Winter road maintenance does however have some negative effects mainly in terms of vehicle costs and on the environment. Socio-economic calculations are carried out, and the best possible level of winter road maintenance will be suggested as a result of the project.
