Trackside Sleuths
This article describes wayside fault detectors, which are in various stages of deployment, and are important in providing data to support predictive maintenance and improve performance for the North American freight car fleet. The article describes how TTCI is integrating car and component performance histories from all types of detectors in order to provide complete information on cars. The article discusses measurements made at wheel impact load detector (WILD), overload imbalanced load detector (OILD), hunting detector (HD), and truck performance detector (TPD) sites. TTCI is integrating detector data through a complex process, which is described here. It is expected that the data will be available by the end of 2006.
