How to Make TDM Programs Boom With Boomers

The author presents ten tips to utilize when promoting transportation demand management (TDM) programs to the aging baby boomer generation. Through Southeastern Institute of Research's ongoing study "SIR Boomer Project", marketing tips have been created to align TDM programs with baby boomer philosophies. The first five tips are: offering choices and solutions to the boomer population; positioning transportation choices as a way to meet the inner needs of boomers; giving boomers exceptional personal experiences; using the life stage, not their specific age, in communication materials with boomers; and by not calling them seniors or boomers. The next five tips are: providing easy-to-find information; communicating with emotion; using positive images and messages; treating boomers with respect; and understanding how boomers feel and think.
