Concept design
The development of the Jo-Line safety barrier is outlined. The safety barrier, marketed by the Atlas Group, uses a steel wire reinforced banner stretched between two pillars and rapidly raised or lowered to block or allow vehicle access. The advantages of the Jo-Line barrier over traditional raising-arm barriers are increased safety, as it cannot cause damage or injury, and greater resistance to vandalism. The barrier has a high operating speed, which can be less than 1 second. Accidents involving car park barriers have occurred, resulting in local authorities and car park operators being fined. Raising-arm barriers are increasingly being targeted by vandals and by motorists trying to exit car parks. The banner-operating mechanisms are contained within steel box pillars and movement is activated by low voltage, high torque motors. All banner movements are regulated by a microprocessor controlled programmable system. All Jo-Line barriers are fitted with automatic traffic lights as standard.
