All-embracing MSCP refurbishment

Car park users are demanding safe and secure facilities finished to a high standard. Many multi-storey car parks (MSCPs) suffer from concrete deterioration, structural defects and safety limitations due to poor design, construction, maintenance and repair. De-icing salts brought in by vehicles during the winter can reduce the durability of the structure. Most problems are associated with corrosion of concrete reinforcements. New specialist contractors are able to renovate the entire MSCP structure with services including condition surveys, concrete repair, cladding repairs, structural strengthening, joint sealing, corrosion control systems, deck waterproofing, protective and decorative coatings, new lighting and signage, CCTV security, ticketing systems and vehicle barriers. The refurbishment of the Queen Anne Terrace MSCP in Cambridge, UK, by Concrete Repairs Ltd for Cambridge City Council is described. All twelve decks were refurbished, whilst the car park remained operational. Ten decks received a new waterproof deck coating and all walls and columns received anti-carbonation coatings.
