1 For the Thumb: Southeast Michigan Set to Receive Its First Concrete Overlay on I-94

The I-94 freeway between Port Huron and Detroit, Michigan is a heavily traveled primary route between two of the busiest U.S.-Canadian border crossings. This article describes in detail how this four-lane highway segment, first constructed in 1964, will be repaved, resulting in the first unbonded concrete overlay in the southeastern portion of Michigan. The article describes how the existing nine-inch reinforced concrete pavement was to be repaired before the concrete overlay could be placed, as well as traffic concerns and lane closures near interchange ramps. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2006.
