The study presents capital stock measures for some twenty transportation modes for the period 1950-1970. The major commercial and non-commercial modes are included, and the large amount of public capital in highways, waterways, airports and airways has been estimated and allocated to the using modes. The estimates are presented in both historical and constant 1958 dollars. A methodology to derive the cost of capital, and some comparisons of the capital intensity of transportation relative to other sectors of the economy are included. (Author)
