An Omni-Presence: For OmniTRAX Inc., a Real Estate Pedigree has Helped Pave the Way to Short-Line Success in North America

This article describes the recent increase in holdings by the privately held, real estate-oriented, OmniTRAX Inc. In addition to managing its 18 short lines, OmniTRAX owners are augmenting its sales of industrial switching, locomotive maintenance, and intermodal terminal operator services. OmniTRAX, according to the author, focuses on real estate first, and only deals with railroading as a consequence of this primary investment. For example, OmniTRAX agreed to co-develop the Fulton County Industrial Park as an integrated logistics center and also to attract industrial development in lieu of acquiring solely rail assets. The company’s first asset was the 70- acre Great Western Industrial Park, north of Denver, which is used primarily as a bottling plant and ethanol processing plant, and the Great Western rail line hub to ship the goods from these companies. Additionally, OmniTRAX is committed to maintaining its current holdings and improving them despite its aggressive acquisition of new assets. The article closes with a commentary on the promising future of this company.
