Use of electronic container seal in traffic through Finnish ports
Sahkoisen sinetin kaytto Suomen satamien konttiliikenteessa
FITS e-seal project studied how to utilize internationally standardized electronic container seals in container traffic through Finnish ports. RFID based seals will be manufactured by standard 18185 which is under development in ISO TC104/SC4. Standard will describe data and radio protocols needed, when you are writing or reading seal information. There have been delays in standardization. Anyway, the importance of e-seals is recognized and ISO TC104 will reorganize the work in 2004. Key issues of the final report are: 1) the impacts of new international security requirements after September 2001, 2) description of seal management process, 3) process interfaces with national freight telematics architecture (Tarkki), 4) status of standards and recommendations concerning electronic sealing, 5) list of potential seal manufacturers and suppliers. The results are valid for future pilots when e-seals are available in the commercial markets. The e-seal-project has been granted European Community financial support in the field of Trans-European Networks - Transport.
