Eaton Corporation's VORAD Collision Warning System (CWS), which uses radar and side sensors and has a detailed accident reconstruction function, will be launched in Europe at SAFE Highways of the Future 2005. RTL Systems is the approved distributor and installer of CORAD CSW in the UK. An interview with personnel from Eaton and RTL is presented. Topics covered include costs of a typical installation, target markets, usefulness in bad weather, driver acceptance, training, and attitudes of insurance companies to the VORAD CWS. Trials are being conducted of VORAD CWS on BP and Texaco tankers. The operating principles of the forward and side radar sensors are outlined. The product's options include the Eaton Vehicle Information Management System (EVIMS) and SmartCruise.
