Traffic control policies to reduce pollution in Perth CBD
Air pollution along with other problems is getting more attention in transportation planning. Surface transport is the major contributor to air pollution in urban areas. Medical research has established strong relationships between poor air quality and human health. The main objective of this study is to suggest policies to reduce air pollution in urban areas by reducing traffic flow. The study quantifies the likely impact of policy measures by combining multivariate models of pollution concentration due to road traffic and average elasticities for four measures: fixed charge, variable charges, parking, and lane closure. Finally the study measures combined impact of the policies that reduce carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide levels significantly.
