Development of the Austroads school road safety education check list: final report
Austroads commissioned ARRB Transport Research Ltd to develop a check list for the road safety content and educational methodology of school-based RSE programs and to use the check list as the basis of a detailed audit of selected Australasian programs. The check list can be used to identify the strengths and weaknesses of a program, thereby assisting in making decisions regarding continued support, partial or complete redevelopment or termination of the program. The check list can also assist in identifying gaps in the coverage provided by the range of programs available in a particular jurisdiction, thereby suggesting directions for future program development or for the adaptation of existing programs from other jurisdictions. The report includes a catalogue of RSE programs operating in Australia and New Zealand in early 2003; a review of relevant educational and road safety literature; check lists for road safety content and educational delivery methods for school RSE programs; and the findings of case studies.
