Orders and markings in seamless union

Good management of parking demands requires reliable record keeping, efficient procedures and regular reviews. Parking controls need frequent revision to take account of road layout changes and the provision of bus, cycle and pedestrian facilities. This design process has often been carried out using CAD systems described as wasteful due to the complicated packages needed. The ParkMap design system developed by Buchanan Computing is said to integrate an outline design, and store legal orders on a single computer system using map-based GIS technology. ParkMap is described as the UK's specialist map-based traffic order making and management system being used by over 150 UK organisations. As a further development, ParkMap has now been linked to LineMap in order to produce accurate drawings of road markings, so eliminating the need for CAD systems. The article states that LineMap is seen as an advance in productivity for traffic and highway engineers in providing a fast and accurate design tool able to store an inventory of road markings and to manage their maintenance with schedules and bills derived automatically. Buchanan Computing has branded all its map-based systems TraffMap to indicate that they can be considered as a single package able to display and print each others data.
