Influence of gradation on coarse aggregate shape factors of mixes
The MOST gradation table for bituminous concrete specifies the range of percentage of aggregate passing through different sieves to prepare the mix. The influence of gradation on coarse aggregate shape factors was studied. Twenty different aggregate samples with varying shape factors were examined. The aggregates were sieved into different fractions and the shape factors were determined using the MOST guidelines. The dry mixes were prepared at gradations corresponding to low, mid and high values of specified ranges for bituminous concrete. The dry density voids and the weighted average shape factors and combined index were determined. The Marshall stability of bituminous concrete mixes at different gradations was also determined.
