Compaction testing for greater knowledge

Compaction is measured in many earthwork applications. The Hamm Compaction Navigator (HCN) was developed by Hamm to monitor compacting processes and allow their documentation. The device includes a GPS-assisted online measuring system. The ACE (Ammann Compaction Expert) measurement and control system developed by Ammann for vibratory rollers has been used in earthwork and asphalt in conjunction with the AMCOS (Ammann Machinery control system) recording and analysis system. Sakai has developed the ExactCompact that allows the operator to discover optimum impact spacing settings on a test strip then program them into the roller. The PaveComp and ComPave programs from Dynapac advise on the correct selection and use based on soil and asphalt conditions with two additions: a Compaction Analyser and the Optimiser.
