Integrating geospatial information into the Department of Main Roads in Queensland: a whole of Department outcomes approach

This project demonstrates, in a broad visioning sense, the geospatial information contribution to Main Roads products, services, and the seven Road Phases adopted by Main Roads. The outcome is a clear representation of what geospatial information is needed to support the department in delivering its products and services. Geospatial information practitioners can use this representation as a tool to refer to in determining priorities and strategic fit for their respective disciplines. It also sets a strategic reference framework for geospatial information service delivery. The project shows why geospatial information must support the business model. This identifies the drivers for geospatial information in the department. This in turn determines what the need is from geospatial information by identifying functional requirements of geospatial disciplines. Service delivery strategies can then be formulated by relating key industry success factors for geospatial products and services and the Main Roads business model.
