New Boundary Crossing
Although there are currently three boundary crossings between Hong Kong and mainland China, these crossings are often congested. To relieve this congestion, a new 3.5 km-long dual three-lane highway is being built. The over-water section of the crossing will feature an elevated approach pre-cast segmental viaduct which connects to a 460 km-long steel deck cable-stayed bridge. This new highway will connect to the 5.4 km, dual three-lane Deep Bay Link, which was started in June 2003. To ensure effective management of the boundary crossing, a traffic control and surveillance system is being supplied that will include a CCTV surveillance system, vehicle detection, traffic control devices and communications, and an advanced traffic incident management system.
