Transit Security: A Front Line in the War on Terror
Since the terrorist attacks in the United States, on September 11, 2001, the terrorist attack on the trains in Madrid, Spain on March 11, 2004, and the July 2005 London subway and bus bombings, it has been obvious that more stringent security measures need to be taken to protect our transportation and public transit infrastructure. This report investigates the measures being implemented by the United States federal government, local and state agencies to increase transit security in our nation. Topics covered include security funding, bus security, subway security and railroad security. Legislation and programs are described, and contact individuals are listed.
