Applied GIS Software for Improving Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety
This paper presents the development and findings of crash data from police reports in Iran and how they are being implemented into Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It describes a tool that generates a contour map which identifies areas of high crash occurrence determined by crash density and groups of crashes involving pedestrians or bicyclists. Potential applications for the tool include improving traffic safety education, providing safer pedestrian facilities, and improving the pedestrian road infrastructure.
