AERODROME PAVEMENT DESIGN MANUAL : FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT DESIGN - DETERMINATION OF PAVEMENT THICKNESS
This document provides a basis for the determination of aircraft flexible pavement thickness for predicted aircraft traffic. The main thickness design method detailed is based on an assessment of the strength of the subgrade and pavement layers in terms of their California bearing ratio (CBR) and the determination of the pavement thickness required to distribute the imposed traffic loading so that the subgrade and pavement layers are not overstressed. A subsidiary thickness design method is detailed for pavements on sand subgrades and the thickness is mainly dependent on the tyre pressure of the aircraft; the method is of limited application. The method of assessment of CBR is not included in this document. /TRRL/
