Accelerating the Implementation of Railway Technology: Transportation Technology Center Serves as Hub

The Transportation Technology Center, Incorporated (TTCI), in Pueblo, Colorado, conducts research to develop, test, and provide the safest and most cost-effective services to rail customers. TTCI focuses on two major objectives: to conduct an efficient, effective research program for the railroad industry, and to operate and maintain a state-of-the-art railroad research and testing facility for suppliers and the government. This article reviews recent activities at TTCI and presents highlights from a recent tour of the test tracks and other facilities. The review shows the variety of research projects at the center and the center's focus on heavy axle loads and ways to reduce the wear-and-tear on rails.
