MANUFACTURERS MAY NOT MAKE IT : POOR ROADS AND BRIDGES COULD HAMPER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN INDIANA

This article reports on findings from a recent TRIP report which indicate that the economic climate in Indiana may suffer due to the substandard condition of a many roads and bridge in the state. The manufacturing sector in Indiana plays a larger role in the state’s economy than most states, as the share of manufacturing jobs is 77% higher in Indiana than the national average. The manufacturing sector in turn relies on the state’s highways to move people and goods, and as such, the condition of the highway system in Indiana is critical to the state’s economic future. With a projected vehicle travel increase of 58% by 2025 for the state, the article makes clear the need for dedicate road and bridge improvements.
