COMMUNICATIONS IN GARAGES GO CUTTING-EDGE
This article discusses the benefits of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) in security applications at parking facilities. It relates that despite the potential difficulties in converting from traditional analog systems to VoIP, the popularity of VoIP will grow. Advantages in using VoIP for deploying emergency phone systems are numerous, such as the availability of Ethernet drop connections wherever needed, and the ability of connect IP CCTV cameras to these drops, allowing for an easy installation and integration of these two security elements. VoIP-RF-enabled emergency phones are also less expensive to install, and can be connected into Wi-Fi hot spots on campuses. The article describes how an emergency communication system with integrated CCTV was installed throughout a Homeland Security-related parking facility in Boston.
