METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF A QUESTIONNAIRE RESEARCHING TRANSPORTATION LINKS

This paper discusses the methodological aspects of a research project that used a questionnaire to help measure the main directions of the flow of goods carried by Lithuanian transport companies as well as the competition among companies. The transport sector in Lithuania accounts for nine percent of the total GNP but only employs five percent of the working population, so it is an important element of the economic structure of the country. With the centralization of foreign trade dissolved, permitting free trade with foreign partners, the geographic structure of Lithuanian business links changed, and the economy as a whole was helped. Foreign trade is an important element in the trade sector, which requires regional cooperation and the proper framework of laws, regulations, financial structures and information technology to ensure the best movement of goods and capital. The survey concentrated on staff of transportation companies as well as drivers transporting goods in the system. The emphasis was put on the determination of territorial distribution of routes of various types of cargo-carrying vehicles, e.g., tows with tilt semi- trailers, tows with isothermal semi-trailers and the like. One of the main objectives was to identify the main directions of the flow of goods. Another question was why Lithuanian transport companies were chosen over other competitors as part of an effort to increase their competitiveness.
