Maintenance Supervisor Manual: Managing Philosophies for the Front Lines
With limited resources and workforce challenges, this paper describes how the AC Transit’s Maintenance Department recognized in 2002 a need to change the way it did business. Historically, business for maintenance had always been defined as “making pullout at all costs.” A golden rule, if you will, that everyone followed literally. If you made pullout, that is coaches pulled-out of the yard ready for service, then you did your job well. “Whatever it takes” was the driving motto, and that was how business was conducted. This paper how the Maintenance Supervisor manual was developed and the strategies used.
