Repairing the Wearing
Cold in-place recycling is becoming popular as an economical and fast method for road rehabilitation. This article describes a cold recycling road project in China, which was one of the first large-scale cold recycling projects applying bitumen emulsion and cement. The decision to apply bitumen emulsion was due to the low temperatures during the harsh winters in the Liaoning Province. It ensures a higher flexibility of the base course and reduces the possibility of future road damage through cracking. The total recycling area consisted of approximately 430,000 sq m. A cold recycler was used that could achieve a daily performance of 7,000 sq m. The working speed for the project was 6-8 m/min and the recycling depth was 15 cm.
