Managing Your Money: Bidding the "Perfect" Bus
Buying buses involves more than going to the bus manufacturer and picking out your favorites. Factors such as customer demographics, fuel efficiencies, maintenance, legislation, and vehicle price must also be considered. The article argues that bus procurement requires strategic planning to find the right bus for the transit agency and its customers. Some of the things to consider include: adherence to the technical specification and parts and service support are a big part of the evaluation process, and, transit agencies can create options within their proposals that open up opportunities for participation from other transit agencies.
