MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF STANDARD WIRE ROPE
Experimental results on detection of wire rope failure by means of monitoring stress wave emissions in the cable system are reported in the present study. In addition, data is presented as a result of experimentation conducted on a variety of steel wire ropes. The specimens, varying in length, material, core, and geometry were subjected to a tensile load until total failure occurred. Mechanical properties, such as load versus elongation, load versus change in diameter, initial breaking strength, reserve strength, modified poissons ratio, and modified modulus of elasticity are presented.
