Pilbara's First Open Access Line Planned
Fortescue Metals Group is the largest holder of iron ore tenements in the Pilbara region of Australia. The present Pilbara project comprises a $A 450 million mining and processing facility, a 520 km $A 930 million railway between the Pilbara and Port Hedland, and a $A 470 million dedicated iron ore loading and berthing facilities at Port Hedland. This article examines a proposed new line planned by Fortescue Metals Group, a $A 1.85 billion ($US 1.43 billion) iron ore mine, rail and port system in the Pilbara region that will be the first open access railway in the region.
