WATER INJECTION SYSTEM FOR EMISSIONS REDUCTION TESTED ON THE MV CABOT: TEST PLAN AND TEST RESULTS
This report describes the field testing of the water injection system to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions on the container ship MV Cabot, which operates year around between Montreal and St. John's. The primary objectives were to verify emissions inventories and compliance with future regulatory limits as well as demonstrate the feasibility of installing affordable emissions reduction technology on marine vessels. The emissions tests were conducted in accordance with a standard protocol using both marine diesel oil and intermediate fuel oil. Test results are presented with regard to nitrogen oxide and engine load. Impacts of water injection on engine operation are also discussed.
