ISSUES IN GLOBAL NATURAL GAS: A PRIMER AND ANALYSIS

This paper addresses the rising natural gas profile in worldwide energy, the gas contracting process, the absence of a global market, and factors constraining the future development of natural gas. The context for the analysis involves the opaque nature of gas contracts and the economic rent in gas prices. The paper presents a proposal to ease the constraints of further development by rationalizing the trade. Factors that drive demand, and gas pricing, are also analyzed.
