IN SITU RECYCLING WITH CEMENT - THE BELGIAN EXPERIENCE

This paper presents the progress to date of various worksites in Belgium where pavement stabilisation by recycling in situ with cement has been applied. The main operations of this method are present in the summary of the Guidelines, a clear, precise and practical document that has existed in the South of Belgium (Walloon) since 1995. The use of this method for several years in Belgium has produced satisfactory results. For a recent worksite, the application is elucidated and tests before, during and after the works are discussed. For some years, specifications have been in use in Belgium containing technical provisions and requirements for recycled pavements. These are also summarised. It is considered that more effort must be made to promote this technique and provide financial stimuli in order to accelerate the development of in situ recycling in Belgium.
