UK company Deans Systems is moving into the coach door market with the introduction of a swinging plug door that lifts and locks. In October 2004, the company acquired Webasto Kiekert's designs. Deans Systems will face competition from European manufacturers such as Kassel and BCE. Gasket glazing and pneumatic actuation are preferred in the UK, whilst bonded glazing and electric motors are preferred in mainland Europe. The advantages of the swinging plug door for city buses are outlined. Peters Door Systems have developed a similar door also aimed at city buses. Deans doors carry a two-year warranty. Percy Lane Products produces emergency exit and coach locker doors as well as a range of pneumatic, electrical and electro-pneumatic entrance and exit doors.
