LOOKING TOWARD TOMORROW
This article describes the construction and design of the new intermodal transit station in Secaucus, New Jersey. The goal was to create a transportation center that will serve as a hub for rapid commercial and residential development in the area. The new interchange point for New York and New Jersey commuters should reduce commuting times, generate high passenger volumes and support the development of five new high-rise towers in the area. The transit station will serve as hub for rail traffic on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor line and New Jersey's Main Line and Bergen County Line, as well as for bus transit. Construction on the new station was completed without significantly interrupting the 400 trains that ran through the space each day.
