FLY ASH EFFECTS: II. THE ACTIVE EFFECT OF FLY ASH
The hydration of fly ash cement includes two processes: the hydration of cement clinker and the pozzolanic reaction between fly ash and Ca(OH)2, which is released in the hydration of cement clinker. This article examines the method for determining the hydration degree of cement clinker and the pozzolanic reaction degree of fly ash in the system of cement and fly ash. When the content of fly ash is less, its pozzolanic activity can exert well, but its promoting role to the hydration of cement is weaker. When the content of fly ash is more, there is less pozzolanic activity that can be used, but its promoting role to the hydration of cement is stronger. The active effect of fly ash is stronger until the level of 50% fly ash. The total hydration degree of the systems reduces with the increase of the content of fly ash because the activity of fly ash is lower than that of cement.
