IT'S ALL ABOUT REAL-LIFE COST PER KILOMETRE
The 2004 British Transport Advisory Committee (BTAC) event at Mira, Warwickshire, UK are reported. Tests were conducted to assess the relationships between fuel economy and tyre pressure, speed and fuel additives. Additional tests were conducted to assess the fuel economy of the I-shift automated transmission using fuel-saving software and the aerodynamic advantages of trailers designed by Somi. DHL's vehicle fleet buyer for the Benelux countries witnessed the Mira fuel tests in order to select panel vans for the company. Greenpower Technologies conducted tests of its liquid petroleum gas injection system using a MAN TGA 6x2 tractor, but test results failed to support claims that fuel bills can be cut by more than 20%.
