SAFETY ASSESSMENT OF STRUCTURES EXPOSED TO RAILWAY IMPACTS
The risks from train impacts on structures related to different operating scenarios (traffic type, train speed), structure types and track configurations have been analysed. Safety measures have been evaluated using cost-effectiveness criteria. The focus is on safety measures to be considered at the planning stage of a project covering the chain of events from initial incident (derailment) to the potential collapse of the structure. The results provide recommended safety measures to be used as the basis for the revision of the leaflet 777-2R of the International Union of Railways (UIC).
