RFID READY TO SECURE ROLE IN AIRPORT OPERATIONS
Technological innovations are advancing radio frequency identification (RFID) as a powerful tool in airport security and facility operations. Passive transponders, mobile readers and greater read range are extending the flexibility of RFID, which is currently used at airports for employee identification, unlocking doors, and opening parking gates. One promising use of new technology is in managing and tracking service vehicles. RFID tags can also be combined with employee identification systems to prevent unauthorized access to vehicles and equipment. Another potential application is in baggage handling operations, where RFID technology offers an improvement over bar codes in speed and accuracy of processing.
