A railway network linking countries in the Middle East could prove to be of great benefit, for economic and commercial reasons. In accordance with a well studied plan for the development and construction of a railway network linking the countries in the Middle East, in order to meet future transport needs, protect the environment and facilitate the movement of freight and passengers in the region and, subsequently, increase the exchange of trade and tourism, an agreement has been drafted by the Transport Committee of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) proposing various railway routes, which are presented in this article.
