ELASTIC TORSIONAL-FLEXURAL BUCKLING OF TAPERED I BEAM-COLUMNS
The paper discusses research work that focused on the investigation of parameter influence of tapered ratio on the torsional-flexural buckling of tapered column and the portal frame. Presented are examples to study theoretically the elastic torsional-flexural buckling loads. The interaction formulae that are used to predict the flexural-torsional buckling critical load of the column with tapered section are proposed. The paper concludes from the out-of-plane stability study of tapered column that the reasonable location of the lateral bracing is at about the one-third height of the column from the top end when the end moment of the column is predominate.
