WELDED ELASTIC STEVEN TUBES OF CONTAINER SHIPS
GESCHWEISSTE ELASTISCHE STEVENROHRE VON CONTAINERSCHIFFEN
Elastic Steven tubes are used in shipbuilding to dampen forces which may lead to oscillations. Their natural frequency must be adapted to this purpose. In normal service they are subjected to dynamic loading. In case of fracture of the propeller, much higher loads occur. These loads can however be considered to be quasistatic. The design and welding of such thick-walled constructions using normal strength and high strength shipbuilding steels must take into account both the static and the dynamic loads. Matters relating to design, fabrication, and testing are dealt with.
