MARINE MONITORING SYSTEM REQUIRES MINIMUM SUPERVISION

This article describes some of the automatic electronic monitoring equipment used to protect ships' machinery, and available from Sperry Marine Systems. Some of the design criteria used were: a system that would indicate conditions and alert the operator to abnormal situations; a system that requires minimum attention and offers ease of maintenance; and a system designed to withstand heat, humidity, vibration and other stresses of the marine environment. An example of application of the equipment is given in the description of the monitoring systems used on board the off-shore tug Martha Theriot, and a number of photographic illustrations are included.
