DEVELOPMENT OF A REUSABLE, RATE-SENSITIVE ABDOMEN FOR THE HYBRID III FAMILY OF DUMMIES
The objective of this project was to develop a reusable and rate-sensitive dummy abdomen that has the capability of assessing abdominal injury. The goal was to develop a abdomen with good biofidelity in a variety of loading situations that could be encountered in an automobile collision. This paper will present a review of the previous crash dummy abdomens designs, a description of the development of the new abdomen dummy design, the results of testing with the new abdomen and instrumentation designed and suggestions for future work in crash dummy abdominal design.
