DETERMINING ASPHALT CONCRETE FATIGUE PROPERTY

Arduous, long and expensive tests are required to assess the mechanical characteristics of bituminous materials required to design pavements. When the mechanical characteristics called fatigue performance is required, the designer must start by studying different mixes. Once the formula has been selected, fatigue tests are carried out to verify if the formula fulfills the requirements. To simplify and facilitate mix design studies, equations have been determined to ensure sufficiently precise fatigue deformation values for the bituminous materials. This paper discusses the elaborations of these equations drawn up from a fatigue data file from other published results. These equations take account of the elements that are used by every mix designer, e.g., binder and compaction ratio.
