A SIMPLIFIED PROCEDURE FOR ESTIMATING EARTHQUAKE-INDUCED MOTION IN A UNIFORM SOIL DEPOSIT. TECHNICAL NOTE
A simplified procedure for estimating strain and acceleration induced in a soil deposit by a given seismic motion is presented. Rock motion is idealized as sinusoidial, soil modulus, density and damping ratio are assumed constant, and the resulting simplified equations of motion are solved for strain and acceleration as a function of depth. In addition, the series form solutions have been evaluated numerically, and plots of strain/propagation velocity product and ground surface acceleration against frequency ratio are presented. The use of these graphs in estimating ground motion is discussed in detail. /TRRL/
