APPLICATION OF FIXED LIGHTS IN TRAFFIC AND THEIR STANDARDIZATION
TOEPASSING VAN VASTSTAANDE LICHTEN IN HET VERKEER EN HUN NORMALISATIE
The specifications for traffic engineering installations for road traffic are discussed. The aim of the standardization was to improve the safety and the traffic flow by decreasing the diversity of traffic signals and by increasing their conspicuousness. Attention is given to the colour of traffic signals; the luminance and the luminance-distributions; the phantom effect; the stencil-figures; the backgrounds; the marking from the columns and the methods of testing. The specifications are mainly concerned with those properties of traffic signals which are perceived by the road user and not with the manner by which those properties are obtained. /TRRL/
