ANALYSIS OF FIRE AND SMOKE BEHAVIOUR IN THE CHANNEL TUNNEL FIRE AND THE MONT-BLANC TUNNEL FIRE
This paper describes and compares investigations of fire and smoke behaviour during the Channel Tunnel fire of 18 November 1996 and the Mont Blanc Tunnel fire of 24 March 1999. In each case objective and subjective data were analysed to piece together a good understanding of smoke movements during the incident. Numerical simulations of smoke flows were also conducted. In the Channel Tunnel case a model of fire growth and spread between lorries was also derived. In the Mont Blanc Tunnel case, a smoke production rate model for the early stages of a fire was proposed.
