Mud elimination is causing an increasing number of environmental and financial problems and this description of the theoretical principles of mud drainage, is followed by evidence that optimum cost conditions for mud elimination may be created by use of a sieve press, this evidence emerging from the Bremen repair workshop's mud treatment installation which is a German Federal Railway pilot scheme.
