WYDOT STATEWIDE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY - 2002

In the spring of 2002, the Survey Research Center at the University of Wyoming conducted a statewide survey on behalf of the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT). The questionnaire covered highway construction and maintenance, signage, rest areas, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, drivers' license offices, airport facilities and air transportation, and WYDOT communication with the public. This report discusses the results of the survey. Wyoming citizens had a positive response to almost all of the satisfaction questions asked of them regarding the work of WYDOT. Only two approval ratings fell below 50%. The services of the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the drivers' license offices are held in particularly high regard. Over 80% of the respondents agreed that Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers treat people with courtesy, and about 90% were satisfied with the staff of the drivers' license offices around Wyoming. WYDOT's communication with the public presented a paradox. On the one hand, those who use the toll-free telephone number, log onto the website, or attend WYDOT public meetings were highly satisfied with the utility of these channels of communication. On the other hand, relatively few people do so and others seemed unaware that such channels of communication are available.
